How Swimming Has Been Inherently Associated With My Life?

When you are reading the above caption, please don’t be tricked into thinking that I am an avid, enthusiastic swimmer or someone whose world revolves around the activities associated with swimming. Yes, once I used to go to gym, but gradually due to the lack of optimal timing, college and work-related stress being the primary reasons for the same- I stopped working out. If I am being honest with myself, life feels miserable since then, without the hustle and bustle, the lively energetic environment that the gym offered. The ambience at home just is not the same, even though I turn on the workout playlist on YouTube and start exercising on a yoga mat at home. Swimming definitely interested me, along with karate and several other forms of martial arts and warfare, but alas, I never got the scope to acquire mastery in these art forms. I still wish to take them up whenever I get some free time out for myself. I just gotta chalk out my schedule for the next two years or so(hopefully!) and find out that chunk of time that has been lying unused, ahem!

Many of my friends learnt swimming, one attended swimming classes in her school itself, and later took swimming up as a full-time recreational activity, after school got over. Another friend has been enrolled in private swimming lessons females and even though she left her classes as of now- she has to attend college classes for hotel management now, from what she told me she truly did have the time of her life in those evening swimming classes.

Once I went by bus to meet this friend outside her swimming classes. It was being held in a local club at Bangur, in Kolkata City and I found her in her usual smiling self, waiting patiently for me by the side of the road. As we sat down at a nearby outlet of Cafe Coffee Day, I noticed that she had definitely gotten into shape. Clearly, starting her stint in swimming had proven to be greatly beneficial for her. She enjoyed a packet of nachos, and a glass of cold coffee with ice cream- earlier she used to be a health fanatic when it came to food but I was rather surprised to see the change in her demeanour. She smiled and revealed, the secret to this was once again, swimming. She would go to the club post this and make a few rounds inside the swimming pool, she was losing all the calories that she had accumulated all these years and was looking forward to being fitter and healthier. She looked radiant and certainly more confident!
